Additional functions of e-book readers

Here we will tell you about functions, directly with reading not connected, but pleasant and useful. These functions transform the electronic book into more universal device.

Applications

The software of many models of electronic books allows to upload additional programs. There are various calendars, underground schemes, crossword puzzles, games and so on.

The most interesting applications are described on a page "Applications for e-book reader."

Updates

All manufacturers of electronic books modify the software of the devices. Such programs - firmware are stored on sites of manufacturers of e-book readers, they can be downloaded. Procedure of updating of firmware at all devices is the same. At first it is necessary storing (if necessary to unpack and storing) such firmware on a flash card to insert it in the e-book reader. At first the e-book reader must to be switched off. After that it is necessary to switch on the reader with simultaneous pressing of any button (here unities are not present - at each model there is own) and to wait till the end of firmware updating.

After that the electronic book gets any new Functions, or are corrected software minor defects. Usually on a site of the manufacturer of the e-book reader there is information about the changes brought in each new firmware version, and also the instruction on its updating.

In the summary table of parametres we mean not these factory firmware, and alternative. These programs were written by other people, in full or in part changing functions of the device. Use of such updating removes the book from a guarantee (and all actions on replacement of an insertion by the alternative are made by the owner of the book at own risk...) But often it is worthy of it.

For example for e-book readers SONY and Amazon Kindle there are the alternative updates, that support the reading format FB2, text wrappings for various languages and a folders on a flash cards. Such update completely adapts the book under requirements of any consumers.

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi module in the electronic book is used for connecting to the Internet, to read news and to download books, it is natural only in those places where there is a zone of reception of network Wi-Fi.
