Text formats of e-readers


TXT-format


Most simple of all formats. With it we work on the computer in the program "Notepad". Does not support various fonts, formatting, inserting of images, transition under heads. Books in this format seldom are in demand. But you can easily make such file, simply having copied on the computer any text in a Notepad program and saving it.


FB2-format


Completely named as FictionBook Ver2. Special format for representation of electronic versions of books. At the moment is a most format widely used in Russia. In Europe and America the FB2-format is not widespread. FB2-format support a bold type, italics, underlining of separate fragments of the text. At book display to the screen of the e-book reader for epigraphs, the basic text, summaries and verses can be used fonts of a different families and the size. Supports splitting of the text into chapters, paragraphs and sections. Also footnotes can be inserted into the text.

In the beginning of a file of format FB2 always there is a header containing the name of the book, the author, publishing house, year of the edition, a genre, and it is a more of another information on the book. Many e-book readers at viewing of the list of books show for files of this format the book name (instead of a file), a surname the author, and sometimes and the image of a cover of the book.


EPUB-format


Format of digital books and publications with floating imposition. It is very popular in the countries of Europe and America. This format included the books built in a file fonts, supports formatting and styles. As a matter of fact it is the zip-archive containing texts with elements of formatting, font sets and the images, spread out on certain folders. EPUB-format more powerful, than FB2, more approached to the paper original, but unfortunately a little used in Russia. For files of this format, also as well as for FB2, many readers show the book name, surname of the author, and sometimes the imaging of cover of the book. Many large European and Japanese manufacturers of electronic books are focused on work with this format.


MOBI (PRC) - format


MOBI text format named Mobipocket eBook. MOBI uses the mechanism of enciphering of a content for protection of copyrights of publications. Supports styles of formatting of texts and an insert of images. Also as well as EPUB, the format compressed on a zip-method. It is very popular in America, in Europe and Russia it is a little used.

PDF-format


The format developed Adobe systems. It is intended for viewing of the documentation containing texts with formulas, drawings and other graphic information. On the computer opens program Adobe Acrobat Reader. For those who is going to look through engineering specifications on the electronic book, support of this format is rather desirable.

Unfortunately, at creation of books in this format of often page simply are scanned and remain in the form of a set of images. In such files it is impossible to change font size, search and scaling does not work. To see page entirely it is necessary to zoom with very much a small font as the page to large size is scanned the usually.

DjVu-format


In Russia in this format usually keep various magazines. It is the graphic format, each page represents a skan-copy, That is the sheet image. The format is not scaled, there is no transition under heads. To see page entirely it is necessary to suffer very much a small font as the page large is scanned the size usually.
